J.B.A. Acland's enrolment as a barrister

These High Court papers document J.B.A. Acland’s enrolment as a solicitor. The images also reveal the susceptibility of paper records to deterioration over time. In this instance, the records have been affected by mould. This is a particularly extreme example where the pages of the item have been partially eaten away. In order to protect these important records from further damage, the item is stored in a special enclosure, as can be seen in the first image of this album. By taking digital photographs of Acland's enrolment, a permanent preservation copy of the records has been created. The delicate nature of the records means that future visitors to the archives will not be able to handle these items but will instead be able to refer to the colour images displayed here and printed in hardcopy format at the Christchurch office.
